Pregnant, Divorced, and $10 Million: The Secret That Shook a CEO

Chapter 4: A Debt Beyond Measure

At QR International Group, the conference room buzzed with restrained tension. Inside, a mysterious acquisition team negotiated with Jackson, the group’s owner. The deal was massive, and the stakes were high. Finally, with a resigned sigh, Jackson signed the purchase agreement for a jaw-dropping sum of 10 billion.

Outside the room, the middle-aged man heading the team stepped into the hallway. He pulled out his phone, his voice low and steady as he spoke. “Young Lord Enzo, the acquisition is complete. QR International Jewelry Group is now under your control.”

On the other end of the line, a calm voice replied, “Understood.”

This wasn’t just business. Enzo Presgrave had spent 10 billion to acquire the company for a singular purpose: to fulfill a promise to his grandmother. She wanted him to marry Alana Tavares, and this acquisition was a calculated step to bring her into his orbit. Yet, Enzo hoped for something else entirely. He prayed Alana would reject him, for a loveless marriage was not a life he wanted. For now, he needed to show his grandmother he was trying.

Unbeknownst to her, Alana’s professional world had just shifted. The company she worked for now belonged to Enzo Presgrave, though she carried on her day, blissfully unaware of the looming changes.

The following days were a whirlwind for Alana. She enrolled her son in a nearby private school, wanting him to have stability as she adjusted to her new role at Bourgeois, a division of QR International.

The little boy’s excitement was contagious as he skipped into his classroom with his backpack. “Is that your son? He’s so handsome,” an astonished mother commented, unable to hide her admiration.

Alana’s lips curled into a soft smile, pride swelling in her chest. Compliments about her son always brought her a moment of pure joy, a fleeting reprieve from the shadows of her past.

At Bourgeois, Alana began her first day with cautious optimism. As a designer sent from the head office, she enjoyed privileges that set her apart: her office, being a dedicated assistant, and having a prestigious role in designing custom pieces for exclusive clients.

Her assistant, Grace Ellis, was sharp and energetic, bringing a refreshing enthusiasm to Alana’s otherwise guarded demeanor.

“Alana, your coffee,” Grace said with a bright smile, placing the cup on her desk.

“Thank you,” Alana replied, grateful for the gesture.

Moments later, Grace knocked on the door again, her expression slightly more serious. “The manager wants to remind you about the meeting at 3:00 p.m. The new boss will be there.”

Alana raised an eyebrow. “The new boss? Isn’t Jackson still the head?”

Grace shrugged. “There was an acquisition. Just be prepared.”
