Pregnant, Divorced, and $10 Million: The Secret That Shook a CEO

Chapter 5 Unspoken Promises

“My grandmother wants me to marry you, to take care of you and your child for the rest of your life. Would you agree to marry me?” Enzo’s voice was calm, but his words cut through the air like a blade. His piercing eyes betrayed no emotion, as though he were discussing a business deal instead of a lifelong commitment.

Alana leaned back in her chair, a humorless laugh escaping her lips. Tossing her long hair over her shoulder, she stared directly at him. “Take a good look at me, Enzo. Do I seem like the woman who couldn’t find someone to marry?”

She was breathtakingly beautiful, and her confidence only amplified her allure. Yet her tone carried an edge of defiance, daring him to respond.

Enzo’s lips twitched into a faint smile. “Miss Tavares, are you saying you don’t want to marry me?” His question held no trace of offense, only a detached curiosity.

Alana’s eyes sparkled with defiance. “Although you’re powerful and handsome, I don’t want you.” Her voice was steady, laced with a confidence that left no room for doubt.

For a moment, Enzo’s composed facade wavered. It wasn’t rejection that startled him—it was how unaffected she seemed by him. His face returned to its usual calm, and a small, nearly imperceptible sigh escaped him. This is for the best, he thought. Neither of us wants this.

“I hope you’ll visit my grandmother,” he said, his tone polite but distant. “Only you can convince her that this marriage isn’t necessary.”

Alana’s brow furrowed slightly as she studied him. After a pause, she asked, “Did you buy QR International Group?”

Enzo nodded. “From now on, I’m your boss. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you’re well taken care of.”

Hearing this, Alana blinked in surprise. Then, with a dry smile, she said, “Alright, President Presgrave. If that’s all, I’ll get back to work. Goodbye.”

Enzo’s expression flickered with confusion at her indifference. It was rare for anyone to dismiss him so casually. Without another word, he stood and left the office, his long strides exuding an air of authority.

As the door clicked shut, Alana let out a slow breath. The tension in the room lingered, but she refused to let it weigh her down.

Moments later, Grace entered the office, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. “Alana, what were you talking about with President Presgrave? Does he like you?”

Alana’s face hardened. “Who said that?”

“Everyone’s saying it,” Grace replied with a mischievous grin. “He kept staring at you in the meeting. It’s all anyone can talk about.”
